The technology disclosed relates to real-time collection and flexible reporting of test data. In particular, it is useful when collecting packet counts during tests of network devices that simulate thousands or even millions of data sessions conducted through a device under test (“DUT”).

1. A real time data collection monitoring system reporting results from a multiplicity of streams, the monitoring system including:
at least one management processor with memory; a plurality of distributed processors with memory and monitored ports or port groups, wherein the distributed processors are coupled in communication with the management processor; distributed logic running on the distributed processors that includes a plurality of database instances, at least one per port or port group, wherein said database instances include at least:
one or more tables of monitoring data collected from the monitored ports or port groups during a sampling period, the tables residing in the memory coupled to the distributed processors,an API interface that updates and adds to the tables during the sampling period, anda query processing interface that receives queries, selects the monitoring data responsive to the queries, and returns the selected monitoring data during and after the sampling period; and management logic running on the management processor coupled in communication with the distributed logic that distributes the queries to the distributed processors.
