A brake system for a vehicle, comprising: a master brake cylinder; a brake medium reservoir; a first wheel brake cylinder, which is hydraulically connected to the master brake cylinder so that a first brake medium volume is displaceable from the master brake cylinder into the first wheel brake cylinder; a second wheel brake cylinder, which is hydraulically connected to the master brake cylinder so that a second brake medium volume is displaceable from the master brake cylinder into the second wheel brake cylinder; a first pump associated with the first wheel brake cylinder and a second pump associated with the second wheel brake cylinder; and a block valve coupled to the brake medium reservoir; wherein the first pump is hydraulically connected to the block valve via a first non-return valve so that by using the first pump, a third brake medium volume is pumpable through the block valve and the first non-return valve into the first wheel brake cylinder, the block valve being at least partially open, and wherein the second pump is hydraulically connected to the block valve via a second non-return valve so that by using the second pump, a fourth brake medium volume is pumpable through the at least partially open block valve and the second non-return valve into the second wheel brake cylinder.
