[Class 6 (ii)] A mobile cutter for trimming hedges, undergrowth, and small trees comprises a selfpropelled vehicle having a power-driven rotary shaft extending a substantial distance laterally therefrom and carrying a rotary cutting unit, the shaft being braced against horizontal movement by a framework mounted on the vehicle. The machine shown is a tractor carrying a framework comprising front uprights 1, 2, 5, a rear upright 8, diagonal bracing members 7, 11, and upper interconnecting members such as 9, the members 1 and 2 being secured to girders bolted beneath the tractor. The upright 1 carries the pivoted end. of a laterally extending arm 15 inside which is mounted a shaft driving the hedge-cutting circular saw .16. The inclination of the arm in a vertical plane can be adjusted, and the pivot point can be raised or lowered by means of a winch 38. The arm is guided between the upright 5 and a vertical member 43, and is supported by a cable 26 which passes over pulleys on the frame, around the shaft of a hand'wheel 32 and thence via a pulley 33 to a weight sliding in a vertical guide 35. The operator on a platform 36 is protected by a screen 37. The driving shaft for the saw 16 is driven adjacent its pivoted end by a belt from the tractor engine, and is suitably geared to the saw by means of stub shafts and bevel gears arranged within the fitting 49 at the outer end of the arm. This fitting,is replaced by another adapted to lie substantially in line with the arm when the sides of the hedge are to be trimmed. |
