<p>The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for recognizing places based on straight lines. An image for recognizing places is received. Contour pixels included in the image are used to detect a plurality of first straight line components. Distances and angles among the first straight line components are sequentially compared and combined to detect a plurality of second straight line components. Descriptor vectors representing straight line properties with respect to the second straight line components are drawn by considering brightness variations of the contour pixels. Then, the descriptor vectors are mapped to a node, which is configured to store feature information of the image, to output a straight line image for an inputted image.</p> |
