A paper feeding apparatus (100) is provided with: a pickup roller (21), which includes a first part (21a) that picks up paper (150) in a first state wherein the paper is to be picked up, and a second part (21b) that transfers, in a second state wherein the paper is to be transferred, the paper picked up in the first state; and a friction pad (22) that suppresses transfer of paper subsequent to the picked up paper. The pickup roller is configured to be in surface contact such that a contact area between the first part and the friction pad, and a contact area between the second part and the friction pad, are substantially equal to each other. |
