PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discriminate a medium type from image data read from an image formed on a medium.SOLUTION: An image reading device includes: a manuscript reading unit for reading a manuscript surface of the medium of a reading object to generate the image data; an isolated point detector unit 213 for detecting an isolated point from the generated image data; a shape detector unit 215 for detecting the shape of the detected isolated point; and an isolated point discrimination unit 231 for discriminating the medium type of the reading object on the basis of the detected shape. |
