PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries which enables the improvement of input and output characteristics of a lithium ion secondary battery, especially the reduction in resistance in a low state of charge (SOC) where a DC resistance (DCIR) is increased; and method for manufacturing such a positive electrode active material.SOLUTION: A positive electrode active material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries comprises particles of a hexagonal crystal based lithium nickel manganese complex oxide having a layered structure, expressed by the general formula (1), LiNiMnCoMO(where 0≤u≤0.20; x+y+z+t=1; 0.30≤x≤0.70; 0.10≤y≤0.55; 0≤z≤0.40; 0≤t≤0.10; M is at least one element selected from a group consisting of Al, Ti, V, Cr, Zr, Nb, Mo, and W), and further including Na, Mg, Ca, and SO. In powder X-ray diffraction measurement by means of CuKα rays as to the positive electrode active material, the ratio of the integration intensity of a diffraction peak of (003) plane to the integration intensity of a diffraction peak of (104) plane is 1.20 or larger. The total of Na, Mg, and Ca contents is 0.01-0.1 mass%; and the content of SOis 0.1-1.0 mass%. |
