PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting device of light-emitting element capable precisely detecting short circuit abnormality on an organic EL light-emitting element which lights up at rated current to take a proper action.SOLUTION: A lighting device of light-emitting element 1 includes: a step-down chopper circuit 20 that outputs a current flowing on a light-emitting element 3; a current instruction circuit 60 that selects a rated mode for flowing a rated current to light up the light-emitting element 3 or a detection mode for flowing a current for detecting abnormality, which has a current value smaller than that of the rated current for detecting abnormality of the light-emitting element 3; a voltage detection circuit 40 that detects a voltage at both ends of the light-emitting element 3; and a control circuit 50 that controls the step-down chopper circuit 20 to stop from outputting the current to the light-emitting element 3 when the voltage detected by the voltage detection circuit 40 at both ends in the detection mode is equal to or smaller than an abnormality detection threshold voltage which is preset to a voltage value smaller than a rated voltage at lighting up the light-emitting element 3.
