PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of the conventional UMTS TDD or FDD systems in which: SIB repetition rates have to be increased to compensate for failed transmissions in order to maintain proper performance of system functions, which reduces radio resource efficiency and utilization.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for receiving and processing a communication which includes periodic transmissions of a set of information segments. A first transmission of the set of information segments is received and processed to identify each of the information segments as valid or invalid. The valid information segments so identified are stored. Where all information segments of the set are not stored, subsequent transmissions of the set of information segments are received and only those information segments corresponding to the information segments not previously stored are processed to identify each such segment as valid or invalid. The valid information segments so identified are stored. Subsequent transmissions are repeatedly received until all information segments of the set are stored.
