METHOD FOR MONITORING AN ON-LOAD TAP CHANGER

The invention relates to a method for monitoring an on-load tap changer that is used to switch between winding taps of a tapped transformer without interrupting the load current and is actuated using a motor drive. According to the invention, prior to the actual load switching process, the on-load tap changer is initially moved a short distance, preferably against the direction in which the load is subsequently switched. In said initial process, it is verified whether the on-load tap changer has moved, i.e. has left its previous stationary position, and/or whether the torque on the motor drive has exceeded a predefined threshold value. The actual load switching process takes place only once the test has yielded a positive result.

1. A method of function monitoring a tap changer actuated by a motor drive for uninterrupted switching between winding taps of a tapped transformer, characterized by the following method steps:
after receipt of a setting command for load switching briefly activating the motor drive and thus the tap changer such that in the case of correct functioning of the tap changer no actuation of its components and contacts is initiated, subsequently checking whether the tap changer has left its previous stationary position, and/or the torque at the motor drive has exceeded a predetermined limit value, and if the tap changer has moved and/or the torque at the motor drive has not exceeded the limit value beginning the actual load switching to the new winding tap or if the tap changer has not moved and/or the torque at the motor drive has exceeded the limit value generating a fault signal and/or stopping the tap changer.
