The catheter comprises: an extended shaft member with a long shaft; a guide wire lumen formed in the tip portion of the extended shaft member along the long shaft so that a guide wire can be inserted in the extended shaft member; and edges that form a slit-shaped opening, which communicates with the guide wire lumen and is disposed at the base end of the guide wire lumen, along the long shaft on the outer circumferential surface of the extended shaft member and that are continuous along the long shaft and protrude towards each other from opposite positions on the edge of the opening. The width of the opening is not more than the diameter of the guide wire when no external forces are acting on the edges and passively changes with elastic deformation of the thermoplastic resin of the edges. The degree of cross-linking of the thermoplastic resin in the portion of the extended shaft member that is located on the side opposite to the opening in the radial direction is greater than the degree of cross-linking of the edges. |
