This steering device includes a hollow upper jacket for housing a steering shaft, a first engaging member, a rotating shaft extending in a direction which intersects the axial direction of the steering shaft, and a second engaging member which is a separate component from the rotating shaft. The first engaging member has an engaging hole, and is attached to the upper jacket. The second engaging member has an engaging projection capable of engaging the engaging hole. The second engaging member is capable of movement, according to the rotation of the rotating shaft, between a locked position in which the engaging projection engages the engaging hole and a released position in which the engaging projection is released from the engaging hole. The vertical direction of the second engaging member between the locked position and the released position differs from the rotation direction of the rotating shaft.
