This invention provides a metal-air battery in which metal oxides or metal hydroxides in a liquid-electrolyte vessel are easy to remove from the system and the deposition of particulates on the air electrode or the metal electrode is inhibited. This metal-air battery, which is provided with a liquid-electrolyte-containing liquid-electrolyte vessel, a metal electrode, an air electrode, and a substrate disposed inside the liquid-electrolyte vessel, is characterized in that: the metal electrode is provided inside the liquid-electrolyte vessel and contains an electrode active material; said electrode active material is a metal that dissolves in the liquid electrolyte; and the surface of the substrate contains, at least, a metal oxide or a metal hydroxide.
