A Rankine cycle device includes a pump, a heat exchanger, an expander, a condenser, an operating fluid passage, a receiving chamber, a drive shaft, an operating unit, a shaft seal member, a shaft seal chamber, a supply passage, a discharge passage, an opening and closing valve, a detection unit, and a control unit. The supply passage supplies operating fluid to the shaft seal chamber. The discharge passage discharges the operating fluid within the shaft seal chamber into the operating fluid passage. The shaft seal member is lubricated by the operating fluid discharged from the supply passage into the discharge passage through the shaft seal chamber. The discharge passage is connected to the portion of the operating fluid passage which is located between the outlet of the expander and the inlet of the pump. The opening and closing valve opens and closes the discharge passage. The detection unit detects the pressure between the outlet of the expander and the inlet of the pump. The control unit closes the opening and closing valve upon detecting information notifying that the pressure detected by the detection unit has reached a predetermined pressure.
