This invention provides a simple integrated system that uses roof-spray, water collection, and water storage components to cool a building, collect and store rainwater, and clean a rooftop solar array.

A cooling and washing system that includes a water reservoir, a building and roof with solar array, a rooftop water distribution array, filter means, pump means, and control means, where the control means causes the pump means to move water from the reservoir through the distribution array to substantially wet and wash the roof and solar array principally during selected non-solar hours, cooling the water by evaporation and radiation, and cleaning the solar array, where the cooled water is used to cool the building, and where the water passes through the filter means to remove dirt collected from the roof and solar array.
