Disclosed is a power transmission apparatus that transmits power in a non-contact manner toward a power reception apparatus that is provided with a power reception coil. The power transmission apparatus is provided with: a power transmission coil, which is disposed to face a disposing surface of the power transmission apparatus, said disposing surface having the power reception apparatus disposed thereon, and which can be electromagnetically coupled to the power reception coil; a magnetic body, which is disposed at least on the outer side of the power transmission coil by facing the disposing surface with the power transmission coil therebetween, and which is electromagnetically coupled to the power transmission coil; and a foreign material detection circuit, which supplies first alternating current power to the power transmission coil, and which detects a metallic foreign material at least on the outer side of the power transmission coil by detecting at least one change of a voltage, current, or frequency of the first alternating current power, or a voltage or current of a direct current component of the first alternating current power. |
