PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries which can be used for lithium ion secondary batteries and enables the improvement of an output characteristic in use in an ultralow-temperature environment.SOLUTION: A positive electrode active material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries comprises particles of a hexagonal crystal-based lithium nickel cobalt manganese complex oxide having a layered structure, and expressed by the general formula, LiNiCoMnMO(where -0.05≤a≤0.20; x+y+z+t=1; 0.30≤x≤0.70; 0.10≤y≤0.40; 0.10≤z≤0.40; 0.0003<t≤0.01; and M is at least one element selected from a group consisting of Mg, Ca, Al, Ti, V, Cr, Zr, Nb, Mo, Hf, Ta, and W). In powder X-ray diffraction by means of CuKα rays, the ratio of the integration width of a diffraction peak of (104) plane in Miller indices (hkl) to the integration width of a diffraction peak of (003) plane is 1.38 or larger. |
