PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rear-sideways warning device for vehicles, rear-sideways warning method for vehicles and a three-dimensional object detecting device that can help reduce wrong warnings given by detection of other three-dimensional objects than right objects of warning, such as vehicles and pedestrians.SOLUTION: A rear-sideways warning device for vehicles comprises a running lane detector 14 that detects the lane where the device-equipped vehicle is running and a recognition priority setter 15 that variably sets recognition priorities regarding the types of three-dimensional objects detected by a three-dimensional object detector 12 by using a pattern recognition technique applicable to images photographed with side cameras 21 and 22. The device, by setting priorities low for the pattern recognition of such types of three-dimensional objects as are unlikely to be existent on the rear left and right sideway areas of the device-equipped vehicle according to the lane where the vehicle is running, reduces the likelihood of wrongly detecting as warning objects what should not be chosen as warning objects that belong to any category of three-dimensional objects to which low recognition priorities are assigned.
