The present invention relates to a connection element of a connection system, to a tool for connecting, releasing and checking the connection element and to a method for providing a connection system with a closure seal and/or a torque indicator. The connection element (1) according to the invention of a connection system, in particular a screw (1) or nut, has a tool engagement surface (5) which can be engaged by a tool, in particular a standard tool, and is intended for at least partial positive contact with the tool for connecting or releasing the connection system and is distinguished by the fact that the tool engagement surface (5) has at least one weakening (9). This connection element (1) can be operated with standard tools and, if appropriate, can be used multiply with the use of special tools. Here, manipulations by unauthorized persons can be easily detected or it can easily be established whether a certain, prespecified torque has been properly applied.
