The present invention provides a method for preparing a positive electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery, the method comprising: a step of pre-activation of at least one lithium transition metal oxide selected from compounds represented by chemical formula (1) below; and a step of surface modification of the pre-activated lithium transition metal oxide. (1-x)LiM'O2-yAy-xLi2MnO3-y'Ay'(1), wherein M' is MnaMb; M is at least one selected from the group consisting of Ni, Ti, Co, Al, Cu, Fe, Mg, B, Cr, Zr, Zn, and transition metals of period 2 in the periodic table; A is at least one selected from the group consisting of negative ions of PO4, BO3, CO3, F, and NO3; and 0 < x < 1, 0 < y ≤ 0.02, 0 < y' ≤ 0.02, 0.5 ≤ a ≤ 1.0, 0 ≤ b ≤ 0.5, and a + b = 1. |
