<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic shock absorber most suitably used for supporting the lower end of a suspension spring disposed in the outer periphery and also capable of using a spring bearing as a common component even when the length of the suspension spring is changed. <P>SOLUTION: The hydraulic shock absorber SA includes a cylinder 1 used as a lower end member, a rod 2 used as an upper end member inserted into the cylinder 1 so as to be protruded and retracted, and a spring bearing 10 supporting the lower end of a suspension spring S disposed in the outer periphery, in the outer periphery of the cylinder 1. The spring bearing 10 has a seat part 11 formed into a flange shape to support the lower end of the suspension spring S, and an annular base 12 having the seat part 11 on its outer peripheral side part and an inner peripheral surface set to face the outer peripheral surface of the cylinder 1. The cylinder 1 has outward vertical grooves 1a arranged at arbitrary intervals in a circumferential direction in the outer peripheral surface. The annular base 12 has inward vertical grooves 12a in the inner peripheral surface, and a connecting member 20 fitted in the outward vertical groove 1a.
