1337300 Epoxides ATLANTIC RICHFIELD CO 22 Oct 1971 [16 March 1971] 49188/71 Heading C2C Epoxides are prepared by contacting in the liquid phase an olefinic compound at a temp. in the range 80‹ to 180‹ C., in the presence of a molybdenum-containing catalyst with the oxidate obtained by the non-catalytic oxidation of cyclohexane with molecular oxygen. The oxidate comprises cyclohexyl hydroperoxide, cyclohexanol, cyclohexanone, unconnected cyclohexane and minor amounts of other oxidation products. The epoxidation may be carried out in the presence of a tertiary alcohol, e.g. tertiary butyl alcohol. Preferably the cyclohexane oxidate is obtained by the non-catalytic oxidation of cyclohexane with molecular oxygen in the presence of a tertiary alcohol especially butyl alcohol and a tertiary hydroperoxide especially butyl hydroperoxide.
|
