R1, R2 : alkyl or aryl; and R3, R4 : H, alkyl or aryl, where R1, R3 and R3, R4 or R2, R4 form a ring together with the Zerewitinoff-active compound or its mixture. An independent claim is included for polyether polyols produced by the method. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# The method is useful for producing polyether polyols that is useful for preparing polyurethanes (all claimed). #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The method allows the production of polyether polyols in an efficient and economical manner. #CMT#ORGANIC CHEMISTRY : #/CMT# Preferred Method: The steps (i) and (ii) are carried out at a temperature of 90-140[deg] C, preferably 100-130[deg] C. In the step (ii), the alkylene oxide is present in at least one lactone compound. Preferred Components: The alkylene oxide consists of propylene oxide (preferred), ethylene oxide, and/or butylene oxide. The Zerewitinoff active compound Z1 and Z2 consist of alcohols, preferably polyols, glycerol, ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, propylene glycol, dipropylene glycol, pentaerythritol, sorbitol, sucrose, 1-18C-diols, castor oil, epoxidized and ring-opened fatty acids and their esters, trimethylolpropane, sugars compounds such as glucose, sorbitol, mannitol and sucrose, and/or polyhydric phenols, resoles such as oligomeric condensation products of phenol and formaldehyde and Mannich-condensates of phenols, formaldehyde and dialkanolamines. The Zerewitinoff-active compound Z1 and Z2 further consist of amines, preferably primary and secondary aliphatic and aromatic amines, where the aliphatic amines consist of hexamethylenediamine, ethylenediamine, propylenediamine, ethanolamine, ortho-cyclohexanediamines and aminocyclohexane alkylamine, and the aromatic amines consist of toluene diamine (TDA), preferably 2,3- and 3,4-isomers of TDA, and diphenylmethanediamine (MDA) and polymers of MDA (P-MDI), and/or melamine. The Zerewitinoff-active compound Z1 is equal to the Zerewitinoff-active compound Z2. The Zerewitinoff-active compound Z1 does not correspond to the Zerewitinoff active compound Z2. #CMT#EXAMPLE : #/CMT# Glycerol (20 g), diethylene glycol (7.69 g) and 1,3-dimethylimidazolium carboxylate (0.39) were taken in a boiler (300 ml). Then propylene oxide (149.63 g) was added to the above mixture and heated to a reaction temperature of 115[deg] C until an upper pressure limit of 9.79 bar was reached to obtain the corresponding product (154 g).</p>
