<p>An orthopaedic apparatus 1 for use in assessing alignment of bone cuts during an orthopaedic surgical procedure is provided. The apparatus 1 comprises a first paddle 2 to contact a surface of a first bone cut, a second paddle 3 displaceable relative to the first paddle to contact a surface of a second bone cut, and an angle measurement device 30 for determining the angle between the surfaces of the first and second paddles. The paddles may be pivotally connected by an extension member (see figure 3) and a spring mechanism 12 may bias the paddles apart. A gauge 31 may be provided on one paddle and a needle 32 may be provided on the other paddle. There may be a visual indication 75, 75 of the separation between the paddles. There may be apertures in the paddles which allow for connection of separation instrument (see figure 4) or an alignment instrument. A method of determining the alignment of bone cuts using the apparatus is also provided.</p> |
