<p>Video content is received by a video receiver (103) from at least one source (104) through a plurality of distribution platforms including at least one first broadband (e.g. Internet) distribution platform (105) and at least one second broadcast (e.g. satellite) distribution platform (106). The receiver is connected with at least one reproducer (102), and identifies a video content to be reproduced. The receiver also identifies at least one active distribution platform among the plurality of platforms on which the video content to be reproduced is currently being transmitted by the source(s). An active distribution platform is initially selected for the reception of the video content by the receiver. A command signal is received, either remotely (e.g. from the broadcaster via remote server 107) or by the local user, which switches between the first and second distribution platforms or vice versa. An output video signal comprising the video content is then generated in a form reproducible by the reproducer. Signals may be returned to the source detailing usage of the distribution platforms, allowing broadcast/broadband distribution to be selected according to number or proportion of receivers using either platform.</p> |
