New benzimidazole derivatives of the general formula (I) and acid addition salts thereof, wherein R1 and R2 each represent hydrogen or methyl, R5 and R6 form together a valence bond and at the same time R3 and R4 form together a group of the general formula (II), -CH2-CH-CH2-NH-(CH2)n- ¦ (II) OH wherein n is equal to zero or one, or R4, R5 and R6 form together a group of the formula (III) =N-CH2-CH-CH2- ¦ (III) OH and at the same time R3 stands for benzyl group, were prepared by reacting a compound of the general formula (IV), wherein R7 stands for hydrogen or benzyl group and R1, R2 and n each have the same meanings as defined above, or an acid addition salt thereof with epichlorohydrine optionally in the presence of a base.
