1. A Process for making a superabsorbent material, comprising first superabsorbent polymers, coated with second superabsorbent polymers, the second superabsorbent polymers being crosslinked by clay particles, said clay particles having a weight average largest particle dimension of less than 800 nm and/or being individual clay particles, said process comprising:
a) providing said first superabsorbent polymers in solid form; b) providing a dispersion/solution of said polymerizable compounds and of said clay particles in a liquid, whereby said polymerizable compounds have a charged group, and said resulting polymers have a charged group; c) applying said dispersion/solution(s) of step b) on said particles of step a), thereby i) polymerizing said compounds, to form polymers, and simultaneously crosslinking said polymers with said clay particles, to form said second clay-crosslinked superabsorbent polymers, and ii) forming a coating of said compounds and said clay, and/or second clay-crosslinked polymers on said particles of a); and d) drying the resulting coated material of step c), to obtain said coated superabsorbent polymers; e) whereby said polymerizable compounds have an ester and/or amide group(s), and whereby in said step c) polyester polymers and/or polyamide polymers are formed and whereby said process comprises the step of, after polymerization, hydrolysis of said polyester polymers and/or polyamide polymers to obtain anionic polycarboxylate polymers, cross-linked by said clay particles, said hydrolysis step being done subsequently to said coating step c). |
