Optically anisotropic spinning solns. consisting of a cellulose deriv. ina suitable solvent. The concn. is >=15 vol. % and polymerisation grade of the cellulose deriv. is >=100 anhydroglucose units, the recurring units being of formula (I) (in which R is methyl, ethyl, acetyl, butyryl, stearoyl, hydrogen-phthaloyl, phenyl carbamyl, cyanethyl, hydroxyethyl, hydroxy propyl, Na carboxymethyl or sulphato, or nitro, 0.4R groups in each 2 glucose units may be H). The coagulated prods show high strength in the 'as spun' state without stretching.
