PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an industrially useful ketomalonic acid diester or other ketomalonic acid compound, or a hydrate thereof, by a method more favorable from an economic and environmental standpoint and from a safety standpoint.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a method comprising reacting a malonic acid compound represented by the specified general formula (1), where R each represent an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group or the like, with chlorine dioxide to produce a ketomalonic acid compound represented by the specified general formula (2), where R has the same meaning as above, or a hydrate thereof. |
