PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To select a ranging point reflecting intention of a user.SOLUTION: An optical device displays a plurality of ranging points in an imaging area, selects one from the plurality of ranging points, and performs focus detection at the selected ranging point. An MPU 130 detects a face area from an object image in an imaging area using a face detection unit 132 and also changes a ranging point for focus detection performed by user manipulation. When a shooting mode is selected from a plurality of shooting modes, the MPU determines priority of the face detection unit and the user manipulation in accordance with the selected shooting mode and determines a ranging point for performing focus detection in accordance with the determined priority.
