<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation device and method which, upon occurrence of an earthquake, can automatically set a route to a place of a shelter far from the epicenter and guide a user to the set place.SOLUTION: A navigation device 10, for searching for a route from the current location of a vehicle to the destination on the basis of the current location of the vehicle and map data, comprises an earthquake information acquisition unit 11 for acquiring earthquake information in the event an earthquake occurs, and an arithmetic unit 14 for determining, on the basis of the current location of the vehicle, map data and the earthquake information, whether the vehicle needs to seek a shelter and, when determined that the vehicle needs to take the shelter, searching for a place of the shelter in the neighborhood of the vehicle and then setting a route to the place of the shelter and starting guidance. Thus, the navigation device 10 can secure safety for even a user (driver) not acquainted with the place by prompt movement, since it would automatically set a route to the place of the shelter far from the epicenter and guide (show) the user to the set place.</p> |
