PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods and devices for fixing and securing ligament transplants.SOLUTION: These devices and methods generally use an implant having a specific outer surface shape and a bone tunnel having a complementary shape to provide shape adaptation between the implant and the bone, which uses friction to fix and secure a ligament transplant in bone. These implants may be used in combination with various ligament transplants including hamstring ligament transplants. In addition, an "outside-in" approaching method may be used in conjunction with an implant to minimize the risk of damage to adjacent tissue and to improve the surgeon's controllability during surgery. Although these devices and methods may be used in connection with the repair or replacement of ligaments in various joints, they have particular usefulness in the reconstruction procedure for cruciate ligaments in some embodiments. |
