PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress incorrect detection of the leading edge part of a document when foreign substances are adhered to a document reading position.SOLUTION: An image reading device irradiates a document reading position with light from an illumination lamp to read a read image with an image reading element from reflection light reflected at the reading position; determines, as a specific area, an area including an outside area located on the outside of a reading starting edge in a read image 301 read by the image reading element, when detecting the leading edge of a document image with a leading edge detection filter; and performs first detection processing when detecting the boundary between the document image and a background image from the read image in the specific area with the leading edge detection filter, and performs second detection processing different from the first detection processing when detecting the boundary between the document image and background image from the read image in a normal area not including the outside area, so as to suppress incorrect detection of the leading edge part of a foreign substance adhesion area 300 as the leading edge part of the document. |
