PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the durability of a fixing belt by surely detecting the rotational state of the fixing belt.SOLUTION: A fixing device 18 includes a fixing belt 21 rotating around a rotational axis extending along a first direction, a pressure member 22 coming into press-contact with the fixing belt 21 along a second direction crossing the first direction, a cap member 28 provided on the outer diameter side of the end 21b of the fixing belt 21, an elastic member 29 interposed between the end 21b of the fixing belt 21 and the cap member 28, and a detection mechanism detecting the rotation of the cap member 28. In a state before the pressure member 22 comes into press-contact with the fixing belt 21, a gap is formed in an area R held between both side parts of the fixing belt 21 in a third direction crossing the first direction and the second direction and both side parts of the cap member 28 in the third direction. When the pressure member 22 comes into press-contact with the fixing belt 21, the fixing belt 21 is deformed to eliminate the gap. |
