A pneumatic tyre has a breaker assembly including a full width layer 3 and a composite layer 4, the layer 4 comprising at least two radially spaced apart narrow layers 4a and 4b which have less width than the tread 1 and overlap in the region 6, a layer 5 of rubber of up to 10 degrees B.S. less hardness than the tread rubber being provided in the region 6. The cords of the two layers 4a, 4b may be disposed in the same or different senses and at the same or different angles with respect to the midcircumferential plane and may differ in material, gauge or elasticity. In a modification, an asymmetric tyre is provided by axially offsetting the circumferential plane of symmetry of the overlap region from the mid-circumferential plane by not more than 20 mm. |
