In the present invention the bag storage stack 2, from which the valve bags are removed individually, is set up in such a way that the valve ends of the bags face away from the filling connection 6, to which the bags are to be attached, and a gripping device 9 on a conveyor 8 that is moveable between the bag storage stack 2 and the filling connection 6 grips each bag at the top of the valve, moves the bag a short distance towards the filling connection, turns the bag through 90 degrees so that the valve turns towards the filling connection, and then brings it on to the filling connection. The rotation through 90 degrees may be commenced even while the bag moved towards the filling connection is being pushed over the bag stack. <IMAGE>
