562,106. Collapsable reels on drums. JOHNSON & PHILLIPS, Ltd., and WELSH, W. J. Dec. 21, 1942, No. 18148. [Class 120 (iii)] [Also in Group XXV] In a de-taping machine for cables and the like, the tape 1 is passed through an eye or guide 3 which rotates around the cable and returns radially inwardly to a drum or hub 4 through which the cable 2 passes axially. To maintain the tension in the length of tape extending from the eye 3 to the drum 4, a brake band 8 secured by a pin 11 to a fixed disc annulus 10 surrounds a sleeve member 5 upon which the drum is mounted. The sleeve 5 is rotatably mounted upon a fixed inner sleeve 6 which carries the disc 10. The drum 4 may be collapsable to permit ready removal of the tape from the drum and may comprise three arcuate portions 4a, 4b, 4c, of which portion 4a is hinged to portion 4b, portion 4b is hinged to portion 4c, and portion 4c is secured to portion 4a by a spring-controlled latch 25. The abutting edges x, y of the portions 4a, 4c are inclined to the radial so that the portion 4c can, when the latch 25 is released, be swung inwardly to allow the drum to collapse.
|
