Provided are an yeast cell with the reduced activity of an external mitochondrial NADH dehydronase, and a method for producing lactate using the same. Provided in the present invention is a genetically manipulated yeast cell having the reduced activities of a protein having about 95% or more sequence homology with the external mitochondrial NADH dehydrogenase compared with a parent cell of the same (for example, a genetically unmodified yeast cell of the same type), and having an ability of producing lactate.
