<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video recording device and method, capable of recording video data while minimizing degradation of image quality, even when the capacity of storage devices for recording video data to be input is insufficient for the capacity required to record the video data. <P>SOLUTION: The video recording device includes a first acquisition unit (152) which acquires the capacity of storage devices (153, 154) available for recording, a second acquisition unit (1092) which acquires the capacity of storage devices required for recording, a cropping unit (110) which crops a partial area of the video data to be recorded by cropping and generates video data having a smaller number of pixels than those of the video data to be recorded, and a video recording unit (151) which records the video data generated from the cropping unit in the storage device.
