Efficient discard mechanism in small cell deployment

The invention relates to a method for efficiently discarding data packets destined to a mobile station in dual connectivity in small cell deployment. A data packet is forwarded from a higher layer in a master base station to a lower layer in a secondary base station and further to the mobile station. A master discard function is provided in the higher layer of the master base station, and a secondary discard function is provided in the lower layer of the secondary base station. Both discard functions allow discarding of data packets after expiry of the respective timers, which is triggered by reception of the data packet in the respective layer. The secondary discard function is configured by the master base station based on the master discard function.
