Provided are a hard magnetic exchange-coupled composite structure and a perpendicular magnetic recording medium including the same. Ferrite crystal grains are bonded to a soft magnetic metal thin film by atom unit through an interfacial binding. An amorphous soft magnetic metal thin film exists in an area adjacent to the interface of the ferrite crystal grains. The total thickness of the soft magnetic metal thin film bonded to the ferrite crystal grains by atom n is less than 5nm.
