<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of reducing a limitation on a use place. <P>SOLUTION: An image reader 1-1 includes: a display unit 10 having a display section 12 displaying a read image which is read; and an image reading unit 20 having a placing section 21a on which the display unit is detachably placed, a reading section reading a reading medium, and a data transmission section outputting read image data generated by the reading section to the display unit.
