[Class 110 (i)] The axial thrust of a centrifugal pump is balanced by liquid pressure acting on the underside of an annular disc 14 forming part of an auxiliary pump 4, 6 rotating with the main pump shaft 2 and forcing the liquid to the space below 14 through fixed ports 8 and conduit 9. The liquid returns to 4 through a space 16 between 14 and the cover 15 and ports 13. In another form, the liquid is forced by the pump through ports and passages in the cover 15 to act on an annular surface on the pump. |
