In the case of an electrical automatic switch of small format, an arc-splitter stack is located alongside the electromagnetic tripping device, which arc-splitter stack is bridged at the end, in each case on an extension of its two arc guide plates, by means of a pivoting contact which can be operated by sides of the snap-action mechanism. In this case, one guide plate at the same time forms the stationary contact and the magnet yoke of the electromagnetic trip device, while the other guide plate is at the same time constructed for insulated support of the pivoting contact, for retention of the electrothermal tripping device and for connection to one of the connecting terminals. In order to make it possible for the arc column to run quickly from the contact interruption point into the arc-splitter stack, the pivoting contact element (which is formed from a sheet-metal strip of U-shaped cross-section) is provided shortly above the support point, on its lateral web, with a run-off tongue which is bent in a projecting manner and from which the base of the arc is magnetically blown (as a result of the field concentration occurring here) onto an inclined ramp which is formed by the adjacent guide plate. <IMAGE>
