A ski brake for a ski which has been released from the ski boot has two transverse axle portions (11) which are mounted rotatably with lateral spacing on the ski. An actuating bar (12) and two brake arms (13) extend from the transverse axle portions (11) in opposite directions via two bends. Provided in the region of the transverse axle portions (11), which are non-displaceable in the longitudinal direction of the ski, is one end (15) of a spreading arrangement (14) which acts on a gearing (16). The input member (17) of the gearing (16) can be moved in the longitudinal direction of the ski by the spreading arrangement (14). The compensating member (18) of the gearing (16) acts on the actuating bar (12) in the region of the transverse axle portions from the outside towards the centre of the ski. <IMAGE>
