Tablets to be coated are transported into the vicinity of the vessel (17) by way of a cart (89) having a container (93). The cart (89) is then raised by a lifter and tipped. The tablets can now be conducted from the container (93) into the vessel (17) via a suitable inlet trough. When the tablets (101) present in the vessel (17) have been provided with a coating, the vessel (17) is stopped in a rotated position in which its removal opening is lowermost, and a cart (89) with a container (93) to receive the tablets is moved under the removal opening (23). This opening is then opened, so that the tablets slide and fall out of the vessel into the cart (89).
