The present invention relates to a mobile terminal capable of detecting a movement and a control method thereof. The mobile terminal includes: a terminal body; a display unit arranged in the terminal body and including a sub-area where state information of the terminal body is outputted and a main area where screen information is outputted; a sensing unit configured to detect a movement of the terminal body while the state information and the screen information have been outputted; and a control unit configured to change screen information outputted to at least a portion of the main area facing the sub-area when a movement of the terminal body meets reference conditions and a predetermined type of touch acts on a portion of the main area, wherein the changed screen information are different from each other according to types of screen information outputted to the main area.
