A method for coating glass gobs (30) with a liquid-based lubricating dispersion during their drop, preferably in free fall, to blank glass container molds (34), which provides sufficient lubrication to the glass container molds without requiring swabbing of the glass container molds. The lubricating dispersion may comprise a solid lubricant having a d90 of below 150 mm, and in particular may comprise graphite.
