The present invention relates to a nonvolatile memory device, and more specifically, to a nonvolatile memory device having multiple sleep modes and to a sleep mode control method thereof. The nonvolatile memory device of the present invention includes a sleep controller which controls a device interface used to communicate with a host to enter one sleep mode selected among the sleep modes having different resumption time in predetermined conditions. In the sleep modes, the physical blocks of the device interface except the physical blocks for side-band signaling is not supplied with power. The present invention can support the sleep modes. The nonvolatile memory device can enter the selected sleep mode based on the access environment to be operated according to the system characteristics.
