The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for controlling an input of a memo in a portable terminal. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a method for controlling an input of a memo in a portable terminal comprises the steps of displaying a memo screen; detecting an input of a memo on the memo screen and processing the memo input to generate an image; adjusting line spacing of the memo screen to spacing where the image can be displayed on the displayed memo screen; and adjusting the image to reference line spacing. Therefore, line spacing and a character image may be automatically adjusted when a user inputs a memo using an electronic pen or a hand, thereby displaying the contents of the memo in a page. As a result, an image from which line spacing and a memo input are detected may be automatically adjusted, thereby enabling a user to write as much information as possible in a page.
